So, my motherboard broke..

Hi all,

First post, so hello! :)

Had the unfortunate event of my motherboard dieing on me the other day. It was an Asus P8Z77-V LX. I've tried just finding another on (UK) without it being used or stupidly over priced. My specs are:

CPU: i5 3540
GFX: AMD Radeon HD 7850 X-Edition
Case: Zalman Z11
PSU: Corsair CS600
RAM: Corsair Vengeance (2x4GB)

Sooo... I need some advice on a new motherboard to fit that setup. Ideally something not over £100 (I don't use my computer enough to warrant throwing money at it).

I'm also thinking of getting this case here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

So advice based on that case too would be awesome (they're both ATX cases, so shouldn't make a difference).

Cheers all and looking forward to being a part of the forum! :D

Any Z77 board should be compatible, but the main challenge is that they aren't manufactured anymore. You'll mainly be looking at something like Ebay.

Thanks for the speedy response @beers

If I was to replace it, would this setup work with current GFX, RAM, PSU etc..?

Doesn't look bad, although if you're already buying the CPU and the board you might as well go for a socket 1151 setup and DDR4.

Have a look on ebay or AVforums classified or grumtree first.

Since your CPU can't overclock you can get away with cheap H61/ B75

Thanks Cisco, I've done a fair bit of searching for that motherboard but not yielding any results, unfortunately :(

Get i5 6500 if not overclock, also DDR4 RAM.
However, i dont see the point spending money on new rig other than cheap £50 mobo if you are not using it.

I can't find a motherboard that fits with current spec, so hence needing alternative parts (CPU). The case is just a 'nice to have'. Not fond of the Z11.

Are you sure it's dead? I thought I killed mine (P8Z77-V LK, actually) when replacing the CPU cooler, the machine just would not start up, but after taking it out, breadboarding it, letting it sit a few minutes without the battery and power, and then adding parts in one by one it turned out to be working just fine. Can't explain that.

If it is indeed dead, just get any 1155 motherboard (unless you want that new build, of course).
