So, so you think I can build?

Check out this build. Can it hold the latest 2010 games but at the same time not be a fascinating gamer's paradise?

I know I'm a bit rough and very direct on this, but I'd greatly appreciate some input on this. After a few more builds I might be able to give full input myself here on the forums as well. :)

INTEL CORE 2 DUO E7500 2.93 GHZ LGA775 - 1066 FSB
MSI G31TM-P35
KINGSTON KHX6400D2/2G HYPERX DDR2 2GB PC6400 800MHZ GENESIS
KINGSTON KHX6400D2B1/1G 1GB HYPERX BLU
ASUS ENGT220/DI/1GD2 LP CUDA 1GB PCI-E
WESTERN DIGITAL WD5000AADS 500GB CAVIAR GREEN SATA2

Few things:

1. I would steer away from Core 2 processors for 2 reasons, as LGA775 is a dead socket now.

2. GT220 isn't a gaming card and was never designed to be so, and won't be giving you very good performance at all

3. You rmotherboard has P35 chipset, which means it supports DDR3 memory, so the memory you picked won't work

4. If you can get a Caviar Blue or Samusng F3, they would be better choices than the Caviar green, as the green is designed for a storage drive, and as such is much slower. You would see better performance out of either of the drives I just mentioned

go for a core 2 quad and a board that takes ddr3 and then you'll be happy, for only a couple of bucks more

Like I said, 775 is a dead socket, so recomending building a system on it isn't really great advice, money would be better spent on a lower AM3 or 1156 system where upgrades can be made when prices come down.

The board he picked already has DDR3 support

For a gaming system, he wouldn't be all that happy because of the video card...

Actually, the Mobo I picked says in the relative store (the one I'm buying from) that it supports DDR2. Anyhow...checked with MSI, it seems it's a DDR3.

What about the I3-540 3.06ghz?

Would it made my life cheaper if I changed to AMD and therefore ATI GPUs?

i3 540 won't work with the motherboard that you have, as it needs a socket 1156 motherboard, not 775.

For your graphics, you seem to be falling into the way of thinking that a lot of people do, in that nVidia is only for intel, and ATi is only for AMD. Although AMD and ATi are the same thing (AMD make ATi cards), ATi cards will work with Intel CPU's, and nVidia will work with AMD CPU's, there isn't any kind of incompatibility issues between the processor and that video card.

If you swapped to AMD, you would probably be able to get an Athlon II x3 for the same price as an i3. The extra core will help you out of games, and most games now, and those coming out, are coded for 3 threads, so a tri or quad core processor is ideal. And another pro of getting AMD, is if your motherboard has ACC, then you can try unlocking the locked off cores, meaning you can get a dual or tri core processor, which may in fact work as a quad core.

Okay, aside of the screen, which is around 194$, I can't seem to get my head around a price ranging from 525 to 650$ for a pc which shall be used for movies and games, but will not be considered a high end PC.

For example, to play gta iv on normal settings, to cope with temperature, but not exceed that price range...I have tried many different combinations, with your corrections in store, but I can't get lower than 700 (without the keyboard and mouse).

I could really use some input about the CPU, the GPU, (I'm thinking a memory of 3gb or 2gb KINGSTON), a PSU around 450 (and which brands do you recommend amongst these: ALLIED AM-DENMARK CORSAIR DEER ENERMAX FORCE HF LAMTECH LC-POWER THERMALTAKE TRUST XILENCE ZALMAN ). I don't need something fancy, just something which can walk straight in today's computing societies without the safety of future clothing in store needed for the time being (upgrades).

Okay here is an option:

ASUS TA-B41 BLACK
AMD ATHLON II X3 445 3.1GHZ TRIPLE CORE BOX
MSI GF615M-P33
KINGSTON KVR1066D3N7/1G DDR3 1GB PC8500 1066MHZ VALUE RAM (x2)

also, a WD 320GB SATA2 (is it a match with the rest of the components? because the Mobo says it supports 4x S-ATA)

GPU:
1. GIGABYTE RADEON HD4550 GV-R455OC-1GI 1GB PCI-E
2. GAINWARD 1138 GEFORCE 9500GT 1GB PCI-E
3. ASUS EAH5450/DI/1GD3 LP 1GB PCI-E
4. ASUS EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3 LP 1GB PCI-E
5. MSI R5450-MD1GH/D2 1GB DDR2 PCI-E
(1 rated most inexpensive, 5 rated most expensive - minimum price differences)

For CPU, an Athlon II x3 or x4 will be enough for any gaming.

For GPU, Nvidia GTS250, GTX2xx, GTS450 or GTX460 or ATi HD 3850, 3870, 48xx, or HD5750, HD5770,

For you rpower supply, from that list, Corsair or Enermax

look at location ;)

You could say "just look for the parts over there", but it will come out much MUCH higher than the $700 because of the state of the Euro at the moment

you would need a better video card, at least a 9800GT or something, the card you listed is no good and games will be sluggish

Yeah I have the GTS 250 in my rig, but the pc I'm building is for a friend, who's not very much into gaming, just likes playing football once in a while.

Thanks for the input on the Corsair and Enermax. I'm slowly settling down on a base for the build, my main problem is the GPU and the budget in accordance with the power supply, but I can get to that second part.

So, none of the 5 options is suitable?
1. GIGABYTE RADEON HD4550 GV-R455OC-1GI 1GB PCI-E
2. GAINWARD 1138 GEFORCE 9500GT 1GB PCI-E
3. ASUS EAH5450/DI/1GD3 LP 1GB PCI-E
4. ASUS EAH5450 SILENT/DI/1GD3 LP 1GB PCI-E
5. MSI R5450-MD1GH/D2 1GB DDR2 PCI-E

Not even the ASUS pairs? So I guess this one you do suggest:
ASUS EAH5570/DI/1GD3 LP 1GB

Theres a debate, 775 isnt produced, but there's lots of stock at great prices.
Obviously recommending a system for 'latest games' as stated is going to be a quad core, faster than 1333mhz ddr3 and atleast a radeon 5750 - but if thats not the price point we're shooting for and the core2 system will do, i wouldn't tell somebody not to buy it specifically. It'll still be a solid system - anyone buying a computer has to know however you get what you pay for - performance and forward compatibility

The hellish problem with Greece is the 23% Value Added Tax, which is killing me. I end up with around a 490 euros rig but in the end I have to pay an added 100+ for the VAT. Jesus, that's all I can say. We've been ruined.
