As far as I know, the first desktop bulldozer will be AM3 with both dual and quad channel memory controller. So I guess there could be two board/sockets. One with dual and one with quad channel memory.
I couldn't agree more with an above quote... AMD systems are so easily upgraded. Not only is the price low, but even the process of putting a new AMD chip in is easy with the AM2 retention design.

The AM2 bracket is just as simple as 1366/1156/775 quite honestly.
As far as going with 8 series chipsets, 8 series chipsets were AMD's answer to unlocking cores, where they disallowed addition of ACC to the bios's of 8 series chipsets. The chipsets themselves are pretty much the same as the 7 series.
Not really. Dont even know why they changed the name of the northbridge. Gigabyte even has a 790 board with a 850 southbridge. The 850 has double the SB/NB link, 2GB/s from 1GB/s. Think it can have a couple more USB 2.0 ports, plus USB 3.0. And Sata 3.0. But some 790/750 already have USB 3.0/SATA 3.0 with a added chip.
