So Which Parts the Problem?

My laptop is not working worth a damn with 1080i AVCHD footage. It plays it fine but trying to edit it in Pinnacle 14 is a no go. Here are my specs

Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz
4GB DDR2
500GB 5400RPM drive
ATI 4570

On the side of the Studio 14 box it recommends a Core I7 for 1920x1080 video.
Is there anything I could change that would make a worth while difference?

cpu and graphics? graphics card too low, only a dual core, only 2ghz. laptops dont have upgradeable mobos, and i doubt it has changeable graphics.

I doubt you'll get much more from it. My previous desktop could play the videos from my Aiptek just fine but trying to edit in Premiere was a no-go. You're probably going to need a desktop with a pretty powrful processor to edit.

Editing is almost completely CPU based. It shouldn't affect the editing performance. That actually is probably partly the reason it's better playing back; I suspect the GPU accelerates the video/decompression a bit when playing back.

On Black Friday Best Buy had the Canon Vixia HF20 down from $799 to $499. I got one and was hoping that my computer would just be a little slow but still useable. I have play with it for a few minutes and I'm not sure I can make it work.
