I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard for gaming mostly. I'm on a tight budget, so i was hoping to keep my P4 socket 478 cpu, but I want the upgradability of SLI in the future. Is there a socket 478 motherboard with SLI?

No. It's not gonna happen. S478, as neato as it was, is over :)
I resent that. I'm still using an S478 board and chip (IC7-MAX3 2.6Ghz) Until this system dies and WON'T play any future games I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon.

It is a socket that has reached end of life. All new Intel processors are in the LGA775, it doesn't mean everyone should go out and buy an LGA775 packaged CPU

Resent it to Intel. Like Cromewell said (explicitly), just because LGA775 is out doesnt mean u need to go upgrade but whether you like it or not, S478 is over.

For now you don't have to throw away your S478. If it's a good board it will still play any game you throw at it, but tech advances waits for no one. I'm encouraged by new the SLI boards. Dual core CPU's are just about here and GPU's are going to follow just to meet HD needs.

Absolutely ... of course if you've got anything prior to i865 really the next upgrade should be to a LGA775 board.

Absolutely ... the i955s should prove to be a nice matchup for NF4 :)

maybe i will do an inexpensive upgrade to my 478 system to tide me over untill the next generation (dual-core CPU's and PCIe) becomes readily available and the standard, then make the switch. what do you guys think? Does this sound wise?

Yes, anyone who buys dual cores right out of the gate just wants bragging rights anyway. I plan to move to a dual core about 2 years after their release.
