I am trying to help my friend update her CPU. She has an old HP 533w with a celeron 2ghz what can I put in there will a pentium4 work
The mobo is an Asus P4G533-LA and I can't find any info about compatibility
this is the 1 I want will it work?

Reason you can't find any info for compatibility is that I assume you're looking on ASUS's site. ASUS makes motherboards especially for HP, the motherboards that are in the HPs can't be found anywhere else, and ASUS only lists items on their site that you can buy retail. If you know the model of the computer, the motherboard information should be available on HP's website.

not always, make sure the FSB is the same.

The website says FSB required 400MHz, I can't find any Pentium's meeting that reqirement. These are the only other Northwood pentiums on newegg...

Yea is a celeron, but much better than what her friend has , for pentiums 4 of 400 mhz you would have to buy it off ebay (if there are somes)

the fastest p4 that is socket 478 with 400FSB will be 2.8ghz. There are also 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, and 2.6GHz If i remember correctly . the only place you can get them is on ebay but the price for them is outrageous by the time the action ends.

I rather recommend Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz, it had 512KB cache and it is 400HMz, I think its about 60~ 80 bucks
