software causing internet failure

I'm having a bit of a problem with my DSL connection and our service tech wouldn't troubleshoot computer problems, just network issues, which they checked thoroughly for us. Their assistance in that regard was fantastic (att/bellsouth) Sorry if my post is in the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure where to go with it. Here's the lowdown. The house has 3 computers, an older hp desktop, a newer Gateway desktop and a dell laptop (wireless) using a westell versalink 327w router. All PCs run XP. Internet connection was consistent and fine until about 2 weeks ago it became intermittent, but could usually get on. Since then it barely works, only having connection for about 15 minutes if I unplug the router and plug it back in (from the power source). When I unplug the Gateway desktop cat5 from the router I have unhindered access on the other two, so I assume it is a software problem on that computer. I have no clue where to start to find out what it is. Any help?

Check the firewall settings on the computers and look at the Router settings too.
