I recently had my external backup HDD die on me while I was doing some transfers. I took the drive out of the case and inserted it into my PC, and have managed to recover most of the files. Unfortunately, a lot of my music files were messed up and I had to use the disk error scanning facility on Windows 7 to recover over 1,000 of the files, which it has simply numbered and listed as .chk files. I've converted them back to mpg files, but there's a lot of material I'm scratching my head trying to remember - classical music to be exact - and rather than go on Amazon and spend hours and hours playing sample files to try and identify the pieces to relabel them, I thought there might be some kind of software I could download that might do a better job then Windows of not only retrieving the data from the HDD, but hopefully retaining the original name of each file.
Any ideas?
