soldering a USB port

Hey I have an old laptop (IBM Think pad I series) that I will be giving to my brother when I get my new one. It still runs GREAT but the USB port fell apart from use over time so my question is can I solder a new one in to where the existing one is now?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

and my brother wants no matter if it has a usb port or not
 
Sure you can. The only limitation would be your soldering abilities and finding a replacement. Oh...and pulling the computer apart. IBM's can be a real pain to get into :P

An alternative would be a USB PC-Card. They usually don't run for too much.
 
Yeah I know and I would have a friend help me becasue my soldering skill are limited but I do have a replacement already so I could do it
