some of my usb ports arent working

my laptop has 4 usb ports on it 2 on the side 2 on back, when i plug a device into either of the back 2 it wont read but if i plug the same device into the side 2 it will read and work no problem. My question is is it possible they have gone bad or maybe just corrupted somehow. The computer is 5 years old now and just happened one day both stopped working.

Sorry, I think I replied to this, but it doesn't seem to show up? about there being 1.1s at the back, whereas you have 2.0s on the sides, and ur device is only 2.0 compatible? it's unusual, our old banger has 1.0/1.1

well its worked before thats the weird part. It just randomly stopped working, and actually they are 2.0 all around.
