Some simple questions from a simple mind!

Sorry if this is like trying to teach a retarded chimp! Your patience is remarkable. :)

This is the first mod I've done to this PC and I've had it from new, and this is the original board, so it must be used in Compaqs as well. This is the board and CPU info from CPUID.

motherboard name: Pegatron M2N78-LA
HP/Compaq name: Violet-GL8E

Thanks, I couldn't find an update anywhere! Btw, do i really need to back up my data before applying the update as it suggests? seems like a lot of hassle if it's not needed.

No such luck with the BIOS update, error comes up saying that this is the wrong BIOS update for my system... IT'S ALWAYS ME!!

Still no luck. The information on that sight seems a little off. If i opened up the pc where am i going to find the printed model no.? If we can use that of course.

After taking off the cover, i can say it is an M2N78-LA mobo. Why the bios update isn't working is totally beyond me. :(

Probably the reason is, there is two or three variations of the board between HP and Compaq models. Thats why you need to find out the model number of yours.

Seems that BIOS update followed through, but after boot it said default BIOS had been loaded. Don't know what this means but it's a step further than the last attempts.

Just means that the bios booted to defaut settings. Fine, unless you have changed some bios settings, you would have to change them back.
