Someone else logged onto my computer in a hostel

I am currently using the wireless connection in a hostel. my computer was on all night and I woke up early and went to switch off my computer and got this message-

someone else is logged on and are downloading, if you logoff now this will interrupt their downloading ( or something like that)

I have CVs (resumes) with my date of birth, photos etc on my desktop- couldn't someone commit identity theft using that information? And could someone get my passwords for my e-trading or ebanking sites?

I have software that allows me to view what others are doing on their computers in WiFi Hotspots, so yes to all that.

This type software is free to download, and easy to find. So people really need to use WiFi hotspots with caution.
