Hi I am Jan I've just found your forum thru google, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 I was on it on Thursday when it said I had malware on it, I have never had anything like that so I just did a system restore to see if that would help, not very technical minded as you can tell, anyway whatever I do it doesn't help, I tried to reinstall Windows after I kept getting a message saying an unorthorised change was made to Windows and I would no longer receive updates. Now I've just reinstalled it all but it still comes up with the same error, I just don't know what to do, please does anyone know what I can do now, I'm going round in circles, the other error it says is The file or directory C is corrupt and unreadable please run the CHKDSK utility. I am stuck please can anyone help?
Thanx
Jan

man, I wish you would have come here when you had just started getting the maleware message. At that point we could have gotten you fixed up quickly.

When you reinstalled the windows, did you use a dell disk or a Windows disk? and did it ask for your product key?

I just don't know now it's starting up with the error saying an error code 0xC004D401 The security processor reported a system file mismatch error, learn more online, so I press the learn more online it goes to Microsoft and sits on a page which says Windows validation in process for ages and doesn't do anything. Sorry I feel so dumb I just don't know what to do. It's working now but just starts up with the error code.

that error has several causes.

These error codes and error messages are usually generated when an antivirus software or a Rights Management (DRM) software installed on your computer is not compatible with Windows Vista . The most common causes of these error messages are:

Your Vista computer has encountered an hard disk error.
An incompatible program is installed on your Vista computer. Some of the programs known to cause these errors are:
All versions of Blumentals Software iNET Protector.
All PC Tools Spyware Doctor versions released before version 4.0.
All PC Tools Firewall Plus version released before version 3.0.0.52.
All Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security versions released before version 14.56.
All Trend Micro OfficeScan versions released before version 8.0.
All TuneUp Utilities versions released before 2007.

What do I do then cause the genuine microsoft software thing doesn't seem to be working it's been running for 10 mins and not moved.

You will need to do a destructive system restore which means it deletes everything on the drive and installs fresh. You will need to back up any personal data before doing so. Do you actually have an install cd or are you using the recovery partition?

Hi I don't have an installation CD apart from the Dell reinstallation DVD windows vista home premium one, how do I do a destructive system restore on a dell, cause I got told to press F8 when I put the laptop on but if I do that then it just goes into all this repair computer thing unlike my other laptop which I have done destructive system restore on before and it worked.

ok, try downloading it again. Use a browser like opera, chrome, or firefox that allows you to see how much is being downloaded at a given speed.

The dell vista reinstall cd should allow you to delete the existing partitions and repartition and then install windows. Thats the only way to do a clean install. It seems you are possibly only installing over the old install but in most cases that won't fix issues like this.

If the dvd actually says reinstallation cd then it does allow you to delete the existing partitions. If its only a recovery cd then yes, it only images the drive. I still have my dell vista reinstallation cd and it allows me to delete the existing partitions and partition how i want it.

Hi guys did a desctructive system restore and it seems ok at the moment haven't had any error messages so keep your fingers crossed for me, thanx for all your help you've been real helpful.
