So my computer's been having an issue. It freezes randomly after having installed two 4gb sticks of G-Skill RipJaws DDR3-1333, 1.5V ram. I currently have one 4gb stick in for testing purposes.

Here are my specs:
-Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
-CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720, Heka 45nm Technology
-RAM: 4.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 525MHz (7-7-7-20)
-Graphics: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT (MSI)

If anything else is needed please let me know.
Please help!

525? That's an awkward number.

Did you set the BIOS settings to match the sticks for speed, timings and voltage?

If that doesn't work burn a copy of Memtest 86+ and test the RAM. Might take a few hours. I let mine run over night unless it catches something right away.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I went into bios and changed some things. Seems to be working great with both 4GB sticks in. Haven't experienced random hangs yet. I'm looking to get a graphics card. What would you guys recommend considering my current specs?

THANKS :D

What power supply do you have?

My power supply is a Rosewell RD500-2SB. Should I rebuild my computer or am I able to get something decent? I'm trying to be able to play Ark: Survival Evolved, in the maximum settings.

If you're able to spend the money, you'd be better of starting from scratch. That CPU is old you can't upgrade much without starting over.

I agree with this.
You could buy a new card for your current system and you would get an improvement in graphics, but the improvement would be most likely small, especially in cpu demanding games.

750Ti will be fine. Yes bottled a bit, but within power constraints and will play the game. Just check the game doesn't require a quad core.

Do you know anything about that game? It's got a terrible reputation for performance and his machine will not cut it. The worst part is, you need to really just wait on that game to get worthwhile performance. It's pretty terrible optimized at the moment.

@Mason_R
A 750 TI is a good cheap card to throw in a machine like this, but if you have any way to spend money on the project, do it right and get a full machine. If you're just looking for a boosted FPS without getting a whole new computer, just grab a 750 or a GTX 950.

Wonder what board he has? Actually the X3 720 overclocked pretty well and most I had could unlock the 4th core. But the PSU sucks as far as upgrading your video card. You could get a good card and power supply, could move them over to a new total build later.

Yes on some Phenom II X3s you could unlock the fourth core if you had a chip and board which supported unlocking. That would effectively give you Phenom II X4 performance. I can't remember which specific Phenom II X4 but probably a 955 or 965.

I think what you do really depends on if you want to keep your current computer for any length of time. If you anticipate on keeping it then something like a GTX 750 Ti would match your setup fairly well and get a new PSU too (Corsair CX 500). However if you plan to upgrade anything else it would probably be best to build a whole new system and not buy anything unless you wanted to put your new GPU and PSU in a new build, as suggested above.

Okay guys so, I haven't been able to keep up with this forum or my computer for that matter. When I have the two 4GB sticks in, it still hangs up pretty bad, to the point I need a restart. The hangs seem random, I'm not sure what I should be adjusting in BIOS. At the moment system RAM is at 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24).
If someone has any suggestions or would like to walk me through the BIOS configuration; I would really appreciate it. I thought I had a solution, but I was wrong.
Thanks :D

P.S. I just want my computer to stop freezing so I can save money and not have to worry about it. Eventually I want a rebuild, but money is tight atm.

I'd run something like Memtest86+ for a few passes or overnight if you've manually specified the speed, timings and voltage for those sticks. 1333 CL9 isn't outlandish by any means and the majority of kits should be able to support that. If you get any errors in Memtest it might be indicative of failing RAM which you could RMA for a replacement.
