Hey guys, i have a 120Gb Seagate H.D.D., and today i got a 200GB WD.

Both HDDs are detected in the bios, but there is no WD in My Computer, but the WD is in the device manager.

Yes the seagate is set on master, and yes the WD is set on slave.

I had the very same problem with a WD 200 Gb HD about 3 weeks ago. I could see the WD everywhere but not in My Computer.

The problem was that the new hard drive was not formatted . So if your WD hard drive is new out of the box then try the following.

1. Disconnect your Seagate HD completly.
2. Just connect your new WD as master.
3. Run a winXP disc with the BIOS set to boot from CD rom.
4. Choose option to Format Hard Drive (quick format will do for now).
5. When format is complete and OS starts to install turn PC off to prevent unnecessary installation of OS.
6. re connect seagate as master WD as slave.
7. Re boot you should see new drive in My Computer now.
8.The WD HD will have a few Windows installation files on it. I would choose to do a full format at this time (seen as it's a new drive) and that would remove the unwanted files as well.

It's a bit of a long winded fix but I couldn't think of any other way to format the drive if I could'nt see it in "my Computer"

Let me know how you get on...

OK man, will do now.

Right click on the WD Drive in My Computer.

click on format.

Make sure quick format is unchecked

Click start.

Its a big drive so it will take a while to format...

yes, it was a bit long, and in parts, unneccessary. you didint need to un hook the other hard drive, in the setup bit it gives you the option of choosing which hard drive to format ;) just for anyone out there with the same problem
