Sony camera makes mov files

Question about the MOV files. The camera belongs to a friend. They make MOV files. Im not sure which model because he works 16hrs a day. I can play on the computer fine. For the life of me they will not work on the tv dvd player. Whats the best option to get them to work?

Ive tried on other resident TV's. It does not make since they he would have to convert to another format. My tv will play all formats except MOV. I would think that the movie camera should have an option to change the format also. any ideas....

I Have a kodak camera that films in .mov - I haven't been able to change the format as of yet, I don't think it's possible...
