Sony CD-RW CRX160E

Alright,
Here's my problem. When I bought my comp. it was able to burn cds just fine. Roughly a year after buying the computer I decided to upgrade from Windows ME to XP Home Edition. After the upgrade I am not able to burn anything. I've tried downloading the drivers for it with no luck. I've installed the Sony CD Extreem program and it's update with no luck. It gives me the message that I don't have any compatible recording devices on my computer. I've tried doing a system recovery(yep, restoring everything to original) but that didn't even work.

Here are my specs:
Sony Vaio PCV-RX465DS
Windows XP Home (came with ME)
256 mb RDRAM (came with 128)
60 gb hdd
1.4 ghz
DVD rom
CD-RW

If any additional info is needed, just say so.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I've been trying to get it to work for a while now.

So I really stumped the forum? Has this ever happened before? I feel like I should celebrate, and at the same time look for the solution myself. If anyone knows an answer to my problem, will you please post it here?

Can you read CDs from the drive? Try another burning program, such as the one built into Windows.

When you upgraded from WinME did you do just do an upgrade or did you do a fresh reformat? I've read that when upgrading, a reformat is the best thing to do. Causes less conflicts.

And of course, back up all your important data and drivers before reformat!

Yes, it can read cds and cdr/rw. When I first installed XP, it was an upgrade, My most recent ones have been reformats. I've tried different programs(the one built into windows, Nero, Alcohol, Roxio), but none are able to write with it.

Thank you for the link ceewi1, but it didn't help me. Everything the link said to do was already done correctly in my registry. Value of 3 for my dvd drive and value of 2 for my cdrw drive. I'm thinking I may need a new cdrw drive, but I don't want to have to buy another when I'm sure this one can be fixed.
