Full details can be found on the sony website at http://www.us.playstation.com/psp.aspx
Initial reports indicate that the demand may outstrip the supply.
So who already has one, or is planning to get one?

Really? I though they were already out. I thought I saw boxes of them at the store.. must have been a promo/hype builder.

Nah, no time for games :D. You gotta watch your thread title, I almost thought you were one of the "free psp" people :P

It will be ages before they hit the markets here in Australia, we always lag behind the rest of the world, especially for movies, though that is improving lately with a number of movies having worldwide release dates.

but you can get those free ones, with an iPod and a PC and a 500000 inch plasma TV! :P

I was never one for handhelds, I like my console/PC Tower better :)

Id prefer one of those HP handhelds with an inbuilt mobile phone, so that I can check my email from anywhere.

From what I've heard the PSP is going to suck ass :/. From what I've read in reviews is that the battery lasts about 1 1/2 hour, eventually the square button stops functioning, and the cd's are prone to popping out. Funzo, since youre getting one, please fill me in on if these things are true. Thanks.

ive never liked anything to do with playstation, ive always gone with the more powerful and less popular competitor ie. N64, Dreamcast, XBOX (all of which i prefer to PS2) so if i were to get a handheld, id opt for the Nintendo DS

k

well i have the ds too, and while it is an inovative system, the PSP blows it away in comparison. Now about 6 hours away from getting one, I'll fill you in on what I've heard. No the UMD's do not pop out unless you are a ridalin addicted mental patient who twists the PSP with unbelieveble force. Second, the battery lasts anywhere from 3 1/2 to 7 hours depending on the game. A constantly streaming and graphicly amazing game like Rige Racers will suck up the battery nmuch faster than say a puzzle game like Lumines. And if your that concerned about the battery life, the battery is interchangeble and you can change it right in the middle of game play, so just get another.

and no

the square button does not stop functioning, it is just placed so close to the screen, that the mechanical stuff is actually over about a centimeter on the system. While i have heard of it getting stuck, mostly i hear the reaction time is just slightly slower than the other buttons. Sony will probably fix this on later systems. (Though I do not have the system yet, I have spent the last 8 months educating myself on it and feel i no alot about it)

got it

I just got it, popped in a game, and wow. The system looks absolutely stunning, and then the games. The graphics are indistinguishable from PS2! The movie playback is great as well. I'll post more as i play it.

wow

it is simply unbelieveble! I own both, and it blows DS out of the freakin' water! The controls are very comfy, the analog nub becomes a second nature once you get used to it, and boy o boy the graphics! DS doesn't stand a chance in this category, neither does any other portable. The only problem i've had with it so far is the glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet!(oh well, very small price to pay lol) I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT!

wow 6 posts in a row...sorry funzo6785 I guess you wont get 7 :P

Of course it does, the PSP is way newer and Nintendo's handheld's were always a cut behind

wats the record

wat is the record for most posts in a row? ;) Anyway, jsut cause it's older means nothing. Doom 3 came out like 3 months earlier that HL2, and the graphics don't compare. DS is only about 2 months older if you count in the Japanese release/

Wats that supposed to mean. from 1989 too mid 2004, Nintendo was the UNDISPUTED champion in the portable department. I mean, even if there was no competition, it still ted the category. If PSP ends up anywhere near that succsseful(sp), Sony would be an electronic dynasty(that means ting in basicly every category from PC's to Media Players to TV's to Home Entertainment systems).

in my last post, ted and ting actully mean d-o-m-i-n-a-t-e-d , and ting means d-o-m-i-n-a-t-i-n-g . For some reason, it didn't put those words in the script. Watever, 3 posts in a row!!! ;)

leading in sales yes, technologically no. The gamegear was far better than any gameboy released during its lifetime. After sega folded up its console/portable department nintendo was basically the only handheld manufaturer.
By a cut behind I mean exactly that they aren't as good as its major competitor
