Alrighty, I have a huge problem with my sony vaio pcv rz22g desktop computer. Over the past like 6 months my computer has been restarting, usually happening on a weekly basis, and there was no real reason for why it was happening. Now, in just the last couple weeks it has started restarting more frequently, 4 or 5 times a day. while now today it happened twice, and when i went to restart it, it turned on, went to the sony screen, then went to the loading XP screen. Then, the screen turned black, and nothing. it went black and wouldnt do anything else. I shut it off and tried turning it on. It asked me it i wanted to start in safe mode, and it will now only let me start the computer in safe mode. Does this sound like a problem with the power supply? i dont know a lot about computers, i did open mine up to look inside, but i have no idea what i am doing. I am hoping that someone out there can help me so that i dont have to bring it to best buy and have them charge me a zillion dollars for a problem that i might be able to fix. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks!

Ok, the fact that it restarted randomly like that would suggest there could be a power supply problem, BUT since it will only let you go to safe mose this makes me think it is a software problem. This may be a long shot, but have you scanned to see if you have any viruses?

I thought for sure that it was a virus, but i have an awesome virus scanner that scans twice a day. Something else, lately it has been telling me that it has just recovered from a serious error. It sometimes makes weird noises too....does that suggest anything?

Do you know anything about re-installing windows? Weird noises? What kind of weird noises? Re-installing windows is usually what I do when I can't figure something out that's wrong, program errors, etc. But you wanna make sure to back any files that you don't want to lose. :D

right click my computer, then go to properties then the advanced tab, then click startup and recovery...see if the box under "system failure" that is labeled "automatically restart" is checked, if it is, uncheck it, then the next time the problem occurs you should get a blue screen, record the information on it and get back to us.

well i have re installed windows before, but last time it just made for a huge problem. I am thinking that it has to be a hardware problem because it absolutely will not stop restarting itself and it will not start unless it is in safe mode. Sometimes it makes a noise...kind of like something hitting a fan over and over again. ahh i hope its the power supply because that can be fixed easily enough. I am having a friend take a look at it later, hopefully he can figure it out...i will let you all know if he comes up with anything.
