Sony Vaio freezing after sleep mode?

Hi everyone, hoping someone here has an idea on where I can go from here with this issue.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop (NW380F) that I bought just about a year ago and it has worked fine until the past few months. Whenever I shut the screen and come back later, the laptop will become incredibly slow and often freeze entirely within 5 minutes of working on it again. I originally thought this was due to Firefox performing too many processes if I left it online for hours at a time, but even when I close all programs before leaving it will still freeze when I come back. My task manager shows no excessive processes and my CPU + physical memory usage shows no extended spikes. Basically, I cannot figure out what is stalling my computer so consistently.

I've run virus scans and nothing comes up, and a system restore in November did nothing to help the issue. My only "fix" right now is to force a shut down with the power button and restarting- even when I try to restart the correct way from windows, it will say there are programs preventing the shutdown but never lists which ones are doing so.

Is this a known issue with Windows 7 or Sony laptops? Any clue on where I could possibly turn next? I have already called Sony and they have thrown their hands up in the air, saying I am not covered by this in my extended warranty. I would rather not mail out my laptop and risk them holding it from me or claiming they have to charge me to fix it before I exhaust all my other options. :/

First, you need to check Event Viewer in Windows, and tell us if there are any errors: click the Start button, click Control Panel, click System and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
