I was "gifted" with this notebook and I am not sure if it works. The power cord was lost for this notebook. Is there any where I can take the laptop in where there would be a power cord I could use to test the notebook? I don't want to buy a cord if the notebook doesn't work. It's an old model PCG-9RFL. I am in the Chicagoland area. Thanks a bunch.

i would get one of these at best buy and try it. i'm not a hundred percent sure it will fit yours, but switching out those provided tips i haven't come across a laptop i couldn't power yet. if it works keep it; if not return it

of course this isn't a surefire way of testing your laptop's integrity; none of those tips might be compatible with yours. but i thought this was a much painless way as opposed to indiana jonsing pawn shops (other than the fact that it costs $80)

Any power supply should work really as long as...

- Voltages are around ± 1 volt of the original output
- Amps are the same or higher
- Plug polarity is the same (almost always + on the tip, - on the outside)
- Plug fits on the socket

Technically you're supposed to not use power supplies that aren't made for the laptop, but it really shouldn't matter in most cases.
