Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro - File Size wtf!

Hi people, i am wondering if there is anyway of me saving a edited video clip which lasts up to 46 seconds and how to decrease the size while saving it using Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro FULL!
The file size is beleive it or not = 156MB for just 46 seconds.
i have another clip which lasts up to 1 minutes and 18 seconds and the file size is 568MB.

Is there anyway i can save my files and save a lot of space?

What format are you working with? That sounds about right for HDV on the first clip.

Im working from scratch but when i go to save or render to a Avi.
it saves successfully but the size i think is too large for 46 seconds!!!
yes it is HDV.

Ahhhh....Well... HDV is going to take up a fair bit of space in and of itself. What codec are you using for the AVI container? And at what bitrate?
