Sony Vegas 9 Very Slow HELP ?

Hey,

My sony vegas is going very slow to the point i cannot edit

I am trying to edit videos recorded from my hauppauge hd pvr,
the file type is MP4 ( H.264/MPEG-4 AVC ).

I dont think it is my computers performance thats making it slow...

Specs : Pentium Duel Core CPU E5800 @ 3.20GHz
2 Gig DDR2 Ram
1Tb Hdd
nVidia GeForce 8400GS
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

Sony Vegas is very fast while using any other file type.

MP4 files are very big, I too have a Hauppauge HD PVR and I render using wmv.

The quality difference is hardly noticeable and with a bit of Colour Correction it looks great.
