Soo I wiped my hard drive

And reinstalled windows after completely deleting everything on the HD. I then downloaded all my video files and divx, and direct x etc and got online and all that.
Went to play a video and i STILL freeze. What is up? Is there something physically wrong with my hard drive? I just deleted every partition on the thing and reinstalled. I am very very irritated.

Your player or video card drivers are most likely the problem there. You have to locate codecs needed by the particular player installed to support the type of video files being played. Make sure the player used supports the type or types of files being played as well. Generally you don't wipe a drive when a video freezes. If the system memory has developed faults that can see locks.

I had other problems that needed fixing as well. However, all of these files that i have tried playing worked in the player before i used the instal disc to "upgrade." I have tried WMP, VLC, DivX, and Real player. All freeze on me.

I thought divx would give me all the needed codecs. Apparently not? Where can i find the codecs needed.

Hmm I jsut heard that not having SP2 installed may pose this problem so i am installing that now. Wish me luck.

well ive never heard of not having that causing problems i suggest using belarc advisor finding out waht you got for a video card and getting drivers

DIVX is not a codec pack, just a codec. Though if your computer is freezing, it doesn't sound like a codec problem...more like a video or computer problem...

The problem there with a fresh installation of Windows on a clean drive points more at a hardware rather codec problem. The possible need to update the bios, video and sound drivers, and run a memory diagnostic tool are things to consider there. Some antivirus or other programs running in the background can be a problem at times. SP2 does include fixes for some problems found with XP.
