hi i have a core 2 duo e660 and im getting sik of the ugly loud stock cooler it comes with whats the best cpu cooler out today cooling wise and noise wise
and will it cool better than the stock cooler
thanks

I have a CNPS9500 on my CPU, and its really good :)

( i have the black version with the NVidia label on it tough, because that one was only for AMD, hence it was a bit cheaper than this one, wich is for AMD and intell )

The Thermaltake Big Typhoon is very popular around here. Also the Xp-120 seems like a good, but VERY large, cooler. Both utilizes 120mm fans.

freezer 7 pro is a good deal for the money. definitely a lot better than stock, and its got a thermal diode to control speed and therefore noise. btw .9 sone is around 36db, i searched and searched and finally found that out. and thats 36db maximum.

the big typhoon is probably one of the best coolers on the market, probably 2-3C cooler than the freezer 7. not as big of a jump from stock to the freezer 7, but it is a jump nonetheless. the freezer 7 pro is a LOT easier to install though.

lol check it out though.

haha define "best cpu cooler out today"
if you want the best, it'll cost around $850 for a phase change cooler, and youre computer will be running at sub-freezing temperatures... but if you mean best air cooler, i'd go with the thermaltake big typhoon, paired with a thermaltake thunderblade 120mm.

the tuniq is suspost to be the best air cooler out right now. It beats the BT and the zalman in like all benchmarks but they are extremely hard to come by, nearly every place is sold out

i think zalman is the way to go. i challenge you to find a bad review from anything zalman has made. i can't vouch for temps, but i had a zalman cooler on my p4 3.4e back in the day, and it held up under my overclocking craze i had back then.

i had a 9500 and it was good, but then i went for a ASUS Silent Square with a upgraded fan (SILVERSTONE 92mm fan 3800rpm) worked alot better!

Zalman 9500 - fits
ASUS Silent Square - fits
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 - fits
Thermaltake Big Typhoon - fits
good luck on whatever you get

The Zalman 9500 is a solid cooler, but tends to get beaten by the Thermaltake Big Typhoon. The new Big Typhoon VX model is somewhat easier to install than the original.

The Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro is another great choice, at a slightly lower price.

Thermalright's Ultra-120 is even better than the XP-120, and is one of the best air coolers around. It's also comparatively expensive, and comes without a fan. If you choose this route, make sure to factor in the cost of a good 120mm fan.

All of these coolers are designed to fit an LGA775 motherboard, and I am not aware of any specific compatibility issues with that particular board. You should be fine.

My personal pick would be the Big Typhoon VX or Freezer Pro if the budget is tight, but you won't be dissapointed with any of these coolers.

I still say try and look for a tuniq and if u cant. get the big typhoon....either model, altho if u plan to go with newegg you will have to settle with the regular version because newegg doesnt carry the VX model yet

It cools well, but last I heard, the Tuniq Tower won't be available until sometime in October.

True. Xoxide have it, but it's a touch overpriced. It may be cheaper elsewhere.

The original Typhoon is a great cooler, but requires the motherboard to be removed in order to be installed. The VX features an improved, adjustable speed fan, as well as AM2 compatibility.

thanks

thanks guys gr8 info but i need a cooler that fits without removeing the mobo and one that will fit because on the asus p5w delux there is a rather large motherboard heat sink might get in the way
what do u recomend?

the BT now comes with AM2 screws...wouldnt that be considered AM2 compatable?

Why can't you take out your motherboard to install the processor? It's in you best interests...
