i was just wondering where abouts on the computer programs like windows media player and word remember past items that were opened. What i mean is the list in their file menu down the bottom where they have a list of files recently opened...

Do you need precise registry entries? They'd be different for each program. You can alter the number of files in the list in MS Word in Tools/Options/General Tab.
