i prefer the in ear buds, which is what i have and i love them. i have the Shure e2c's. they are about $100 and i use them when i mow the lawn, and i can barely hear the mower with my ipod at about half volume. sweetness. in airplanes you cant hear anything. think of them as earplugs with speakers. wonderfully quiet.

any of the shure earbuds are really nice, from $100-$500 with many models. bose has an in ear model but i dont like them as much as they arent designed to block outside noises like the shures are.

i have the bose $300 head phones. top of the line cancelling :D the only draw back is that you need to carry AA batteries for it. it will not work without battery.
