Sound Card for Home Recording Studio

A friend asked me to build him a system. He's going to be using it mainly for some intense home recording. I have no problem building it, but I've never done anything more than I little aftermarket sound card or just the onboard sound.

I don't know anything about sound or what kinds of inputs would need to be involved. Are there any good cards for this that you guys would recommend? Thanks in advance!

Agree with E-mu, works really well with studio software. The main thing is it's full duplex.
It would be great if there was a MIDI connection and phantom power. E-mu 0202 doesn't have those, but small mixers doesn't cost much and same thing with MIDI to USB adapters. 0404 has it all, but it's more expensive :D

If he needs a midi-input get him a Tascam Us-144 it has dual midi inputs and extra xlr and 1/4 inputs and phantom power.
