If i have a motherboard with high definition sound onboard, will i benefit from buying an X-Fi sound card?

i was wondering the same a nforce 680i onboard or a x-fi and is there a big noticable differnce watching movies and listening to music besides gaming

Motherboards these days tend to have very high quality onboard sound. Buying a good sound card might improve the sound abit but its hardly necessary.

I have an Asus P5W DH Deluxe and the sound is crap compared to my very old Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1.

Motherboards have poor quality onboard sound, even if they claim "HD". You will notice a huge difference upgrading to an X-Fi.

I suggest you DO Buy a sound card.

My On Board audio is absolutly crap compared to my 7.1 Sound Blaster Audigy..

I plugged my stereo into my onboard the other day and talk about bad...

you never really notice it until you get the sound card.
