Creative

I got the Creative X-FI Fatal1ity, and the creative 7.1 speakers. I can't compare it to other cards, but over onboard audio and regular PC speakers it kicks but. I could never get the stupid Realtek to work on my old motherboard. There are different X-fi models, but the one I got has the front panel 5.25" which I never use.

there's a noticeable difference between onboard vs. a dedicated sound card

but i honestly never noticed much of a difference between different cards, and i've had everything from a $19 hollywood@home 7.1 card, to a audigy 2 zs, to a audigy 2 platinum pro

i hated the platinum pro, tho, i didn't like the external box, it was ugly as sin, and all the outputs were on the FRONT, and not the back, which i thought was an oversight

or could i use these speakers and be able to use the 5.1 surround sound without having a sound card?

also what cables does this require or do all the cables need come with the speakers

don't use onboard

like i said, just get a card, it doesn't matter which one

using the onboard destroys system performance

could you choose a good card thats pretty cheap or could i just use the speakers with the onboard sound from my mobo? im sure the performace destroying isn't much

What do you mean by "cheap"? Any Creative sound card would be much better than your current setup.

i've had a $20 hollywood@home 7.1 card, and it honestly sounded no worse than my creatives

it was 24bit just like the audigies, with the same 109db s/n ratio and everything
