Sound not in Sync with Video on Laptop

Hi All..

My friend has a laptop and a external hdd, now she just told me that on her laptop when she watches a movie on her laptop the sound isnt in sync with the video, however the same movie if plugged into her DVD player (and therefore on her tv) is in sync...

What would be causing the unsync on her laptop?

Ok she now told me that when she runs the movie into her dvd player/tv she is running off a usb pendrive.

And when she runs it one her laptop shes using her internal harddrive. I suggested a defrag. But I dont really know what else it could be, maybe codecs?
