I recently bought a custom built computer from a buddy. It was built in 2001. Everything seems to ne working fine but my sound. When I try to turn it on windows xp says no device. is it a driver problem. Im not sure what kind of sound card i have or if I even have one. Somebody wanna give it a try?

Under device manager, does it recognize the sound card? Or does it say "unknown device"?

Sorry about that. Go to Start>Control Panel> Administrative Tools>Computer Management> Device Manager
Now under Device Manager you will see all of your computers hardware. Near the bottom, you should see something under the category "Unknown Devices", double click on it and a box will appear. See if it says anything about your sound card. Or if you don't see something that says "Unknown Devices" then click on something that says "Sound, gaming and graphics controllers" And see if it says anything about your sound card in there.

Right Click on My Computer, and Left Click Properties.
Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.
Do you see any Yellow Question Marks?
If you do and you don't know what motherboard
you have, download and run CPU-Z from HERE.
That should list your motherboard brand and model.
Then we can look up your Audio Drivers and go from there.

in the other devices folder...

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Does that help at all or do I still need to find out what kind of motherboard I have?
