sound volume probs with windows 7

hey guys ...

i'm new here and in addition to that i know pretty little about computers ... well ... obviously i use them every day, but who doesn't nowadays, right? ... i'm just mentioning it to explain, that you can expect a basic understanding of computer technology from me, but if it get's too technical, you'll probably lose me ... :o ... i'd very much appreciate it, if you could take that into account with your answers ... ;) ...

let's see if one of you whizz-kids can help an old fart like me with a little prob i've got ... i recently had windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed on my asus laptop, since i really didn't like the vista it came with and it caused me loads of grief ... the change was a good move and i'm very happy with the way my lappy behaves now ... the only issue is, that ever since the installation my sound volume is much lower than it was before with vista ... everything on the mixer is set on "high" and i even installed "SRS HD Audio Lab", but to no avail (well ... it did improve the quality of the sound, of course, but it is still very low ) ... any idea what it could be and what i could do about it? ...

For starters, do you have the correct sound driver installed? Go into device manager and make sure that nothing still needs a driver installed. What is the exact model of asus laptop you have?

my device manager gives me the thumbs up in the driver department ... my laptop is a asus pro31s ...

It doesn't seem that asus has drivers available for that model cause it comes up empty and doesn't allow you to pick operating system. Is the volume control turned up all the way?

Its also possible that maybe analog out put is selected instead of digital or vice versa?. I had that issue years ago.
 
Download and install PC Wizard from my sig. Run it and go to FILE, SAVE AS, and click ok.

Then copy that text out of that file into this thread.

There are quite a few different makes under the pro31s, PCWizard will narrow it down.

@john35: yes ... sound level is all the way up ... :D ... i know i said i know pretty little about computers, but not THAT little ... :D ... with the other thing (analog/digital) though you'll have to tell me how to find that out ...

Check that you haven't turned the volume down on any physical (e.g. volume dial) method.

Update directx (google update directx)
Update windows

hi bigfella ... no relevant drivers found that need updating ... that's probably because it has been done only about 3-4 weeks ago (when installing win 7) ... it looks like i have to get used to the lower volume ... the guy who installed win 7 and does all the computer stuff that goes past my knowledge (and is usually quite good at it too) doesn't know, what it could be either ... i do thank you guys for all your help though ... you've been great! ...
