Sound wierd wen using cd drive

Hi just wondering if anyone could help me...When eva im using my cd drive (for burning or importing songs or whatever) i cannot listen to any music or anything. If i do, whatever im listening to or watching slows right down and jumps!?! Any ideas?
 
Most optical drives aren't multi taskers. If your doing something like ripping or burning, let it finish. The laser can only be in one place at a time and the information is stored in different parts of the disk.
 
Yeah, wouldn't it be nice to have multiple lasers? We have 4 cpus jammed into one, why can't we have at least dual lasers in our optical drives? Maybe its because they are so cheap...
 
Even then the drive speed would have to be altered. If you're ripping music at say 9X the disk needs to be read at 1X to sound right, otherwise you'll be listening to it very quickly.
