alright here is where my problem begins
i have a Pentuim 3, 728Mb ram... not much more need to be said. Computer
which parts have been collected over the years for
it has currently been sitting in my shed outside used as a media player.
it recently got a virus from my USB which made Windows Media Player freeze
this made it unusable in its position.

Soo i decided to bring it in and install antivirus [which was a bitch as well because the virus was a svchost.exe affecting my LAN card]
anyway i thought while its inside why not download SP2.
which i tryed.. unfortunatly my OS is a business license of XP Pro and isnt authentic somehow.
however i decided to download the install file ...in the thought that it wouldnt require validation because after all it is free right?
[feel free to correct me if the install file requires validation.]
anyway 266 MB and 3Hrs later i finally get my SP2 install file
and to my suprise i find that this .exe file is not a valid win32 file?

does anyone know
- a way to open the file
- a alternative way to get SP2 without validation
- recommendations

if it says not valid, that means it is a bad download. Try again.

And yeah you cant put sp2 on. What you have is a corporate edition of XP. These keys are blacklisted because they dont need activation, so people used to steal them. Speak to your IT depratment and thet will provide you with one which uses an up to date key,

i gathered that the code didnt work
however if i download again do you know if installation of SP2 requires validation?
or is it only windows update that requires me to validate?
coz i dont want to download for 3 hrs again without knowing if it will work

what sp2 does is have a load of blacklisted volume licencing keys,. yours is obviously on it.

Speak to the IT department and get a new copy, or if its a pirate, go out and buy a real one

i know you probaly know what you are talking about
but the thing that stoped me was windows update
and its validation tool.
are you saying that SP2 has its own validaton tool aswell?
and my XP pro has a volume licence i found on the internet. Cough.

xp sp2 has a list of blacklisted volume licencing cd keys built in. Ones that are known to have been stolen by pirates. You cannot install SP2 on such a machine.

Buy a real copy.

Damn.

thanks heaps for your however the main reason i have the computer is to not spend any money on it. just for the record
the main reason i want SP2 is for Salling Clicker
which is a bluetooth remote controll program that allowes you to control media player, itunes, the mouse, shutdown ect.
it requires SP2 or higher
but i have done a virus scan and it is back to the way it started thanks heaps
