thats a shame cuz i wanted XP home without SP2
May I ask why?

If it has anything to do with the security center, you can disable it and also disable the Firewall and auto updater.

May i ask why you need a reson why? lol theres not enough horse power under the bonnet to run it, heck im at 100% cpu usage all the time, and it was never like this when i had pro without sp2 on, then it was at 3%

BTW im not talking bout my sig, the computer im on isnt capable for sp2, just about handles XP

yea but ill get balloons pop up saying "Your computer might be at risk" and its not.

What are the specs of the computer? The system requirements don't change when you put a service pack on there. And you can disable the balloon pop ups.

Yes, no system file changes occured in SP2 in order to require or draw more CPU power. As said above, the baloon pop-ups can be disabled, there's really no reason to get rid of SP2, it's kind of a bad decision. AFAIK, the only way to get rid of SP2 is via the uninstaller which only comes when you manually install it from a .msi standalone file. I guess you'd have to reformat if you still want to get rid of it. And if the windows CD had SP2 pre-installed, forget about it, you're never getting rid of it.

urg, ok how do i disable the ballons and the red shield in the corner
Start > Run > Msconfig > Services > uncheck "Security Center". But make sure you disable the firewall and auto-updater first. Then you wont get any balloons or alert messages relating to it.

If your CPU usage is at 100% then you have a massive problem, and its not SP2, on my machine it actully speeds up not slows down from SP2., either way your CPU usage should NOT be even close to that.

well it kinda does, this was when i freshly installed XP home with service pack
Wait, So was it a CD that came with SP2 that installed it during install or not? If you installed it after you can remove it.

I've run both releases of XP on one system where the first cd ran with SP1 with the second having SP2 install automatically without problems seen. If your cd came with SP1 and you updated to SP2 you can remove that in the add/remove programs section of the Control Panel. If you are talking about the system idle process running at about 99% you have nothing to worry about. Windows has this process to keep the cpu from running at full speed all of the time even when not running any apps.
