Drive manufactureres state capacities based on 1KB = 1000B. Windows, on the other hand, correctly bases drive capacities on 1KB=1024 bytes. Doing the math:

320GB @ 1000 bytes/KB =
320 * 1000 * 1000 * 1000 = 320000000000 bytes

320000000000 bytes @ 1024 bytes/KB =
320000000000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 298GB, which is what the drive should read as.

Hope this clears it up a little
 
ahh ok thanx guys the drive all so makes a beep/squeaking sound every no and then even when the drive is not in use any idears?
