Someone told me that a 120gb hard drive is better than a 80gb hard drive because it will put out better performance. I want to know because my dad bought a computer with a 80gb hard with Windows XP installed on to it. If I use all the stuff (Hard drive windows case) then it will save me about $200.

there are many more than that are far more important than the size.. Cache size of the hd, the RPM of the drive... If he is talking about the pagefile system.. it doesnt really mater as you can use it on 2 drives instead of one.

if you have more than a gig of extra space, it really doesnt matter, but you dont want the hard drive excessively full

Maybe the 120gb hdd has a bigger cache size......but the actual storage has nothing to do wtih preformance really.

The biggest problem with having a larger hard drive than you need is that more information is stored on a smaller space (more bits per square inch), so there is more chance of the drive failing the larger it is (statistically speaking). Windows needs around 10% free space to run on its OS most efficiently.

Just to note, unless he paid for the license key from microsoft this action is illegal. Also note that installing a hard drive with windows already on it will not give you the best performance of the os. You need to install the os onto the hardrive once it is already in the pc to ensure optimal setup.
