Ok so I am building me a gaming pc to run games like Empire Total War, DOW 2, etc on high settings and still be able to run some newer games down the road. Here are the specs I have come up with.

Power Supply

I am on a budget of around $800 maybe $900, I also still need a decent sound card so if anyone as any suggestions on that or any tweaks to what I already got going plz any suggestions would be appreciated. I am just under $800 already. Oh and the things I am getting from best buy are because I get a pretty sweet discount on them. Thanks :D

PSU:

HDD:

Socket 775 is not worth it anymore since no new processors will be released on that platform, i would go with a phenom II system:

CPU:

Mobo:

Memory:

GPU:

Case:

Total---------------$776.44 before rebates, $746.44 after rebates.

Unless your getting a 50% discount from bestbuy... dont buy from them, especially that power supply and memory.

For sound card... integrated is fine, but if you want a dedicated card then go with:

If you wanna spend a little more, you could go with this GPU:

Well a couple of the computer guys were helping at work and they said I should try and get a DDR3 commpatible board. Ok I wont get those things from best buy except for that case cause I still get it for cheaper. And if I go ATI should I get a crossfire motherboard or does the one you suggested already support it?

The Gigabyte board is crossfire compatible, ddr3 for a phenom II is kinda a waste as it only supports 1333mhz ddr3, which with the increase latency(9-9-9-24 vs 4-4-4-15 of 800mhz ddr2) provides little to any performance boost.

If you can budget it in, for the increase in size this 750gb drive is excellent(i recommended the 640gig seagate above as it was a little cheaper)

Oh ok, so with that set up could I easily run Empire Total War and DOW 2 on high with no problems? I don't know a whole lot about computers I am in a learning phase and this is my first build.

That rig should run pretty much any game atm.(Well, except crysis at all high settings at 1920x1200... most rigs cant do that anyhow lol) Plus if you notice a drop in framerates, just drop in another card for crossfire down the road. If you plan on going crossfire in the future though, invest in a slightly higher wattage psu to begin with:

Alright well I don't do many shooters on pc anyway I am a console guy for shooters. On PC I mainly do RTS games and the occasional MMO.

The rig should have no problems playing those games. With your new rig you may end up playing some pc shooters with all its gaming power:P

Yeah I mainly play strategy games thos like right now I am doing Medieval 2 but I can only run it on low and if the battles go over like 3500 units it starts running slow especially in castle battles.

Oh gotcha. Yeah I decided I wanted my own computer instead of sharing with my dad, and so I can do whatever I want on it.

Yeah, once you build a computer you will never buy a pre built again, you can get so much better price and specs for the $, plus use quality power supplies, mobos, etc.

Yeah well the computer I use right now is home built but its my dads and he doesn't want it f'ed up, so I always have to ask before I can install or DL something lol. It gets kinda annoying lol. And plus he is looking to upgrade anymore cause the only game he really plays is BF2 even tho its my game lol.
