Specs that work?

Hello everyone:

Building specification for a gamer PC. With a request to run Unreal Tournament and War Craft games, along with standard PC applications, what is the bare min to operate?

Can a E7500 CPU with a 400 W psu and a EVGA N958-LR GeForce 9500GT 1GB DDR2 PCIE DVI/VGA/HDTV/, video card work?

Using a 500 GB HDD, 4GB of RAM, using a 22"W LCD monitor - DVD-RW Drive...

I appreciate any feedback you can offer!

Thanks in advance!

Everything is OK except the video card, unless you are gaming at 800x600 resolution, you're gonna need a better card. A 9600gt is way better and does not require the extra 6 pin PCIe connector. 9400gt has a memory bandwidth of 12gb/s, a 9500gt has 16gb/s, and a 9600gt is 57gb/s.

I have this card in another system, plays COD WAW at 1600x1200 resolution with no lag at all with around 40-60 FPS depending on the situation. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127434

Hi 87dtna-

So you suggest that a 9500 will not work?! Even for the time being until later?

My customer is on a budget... with less than $700 to work with... It's just that a 9600GT is nearly $100 more than what he can afford, just wondering if the 9500 series will work for him for a short while?

Also, what type of mobo are you using on your system? I was thinking Asus P5QPL-VM-EPU G41 GMA4500 775 DDR2 PCIE Gb-Lan M-ATX - is this too much or too little of a board?

Is he an only intel guy? I highly suggest an AMD build if you have a budget. Let me know and I'll list an entire AMD setup for under $700 for you thats way better than an E7500 setup.
A 9600gt is ~$40 more than a 9500gt.

Yes, give me the specs you have, something I can work with... also... thinking about using Windows Vista 64-bit over 32-bit to break the 3GB memory barrier.

And you are right about the $40. diff... it's just around $100 total for the video... I'm having my supplier/vendor help with alternative choices on the video.

64 or 32 bit really isn't a big deal right now. The difference between 3.25gb and 4gb is very little. Although I like windows 7, there's a alot of old programs that I personally use that can only run on a 32 bit OS.

Alright, here's the list...a little over $700 but this includes the operating system and a possible skimp area is the hard drive. I listed a caviar black 640gb, one of the fastest non-SSD drives out there right now...pretty much best bang for the buck HDD.

Thanks guys!

My vendor helped me too... got everything right under $700.00 ($623.33 actually at reseller cost - Intel E7500 cpu, 500 GB SATA HDD, 22" W LCD Monitor and although the video card is reasonable, my customer is happy for now... he wants to be able to upgrade to a better performance video card later, and add more RAM... although we got him a pretty decent Gamer case for around $70.00 with a 22x DVD Drive, and for $48. I got him the ideazon Zboard keyboard he wanted.

I'd notice the AMD, but my vendor said my customer would be much happier with the Intel platform for growth potential... I agreed.

Someone mentioned a different video card under $90.00 but my vendor didn't have in stock... so we went with an alternative choice.

Thanks for the help, I can see now how important the proper configuration with games is best... I'm most a network installer... with very little knowledge of Gaming computers... I'm always learning a lot here!

Thanks a million!

Socket 775 growth potential more than socket AM3? Thats about as wrong of a statement as you can get!

You know, with AM3 you are probably correct... my vendor was quoting me on the AM2+ - guess that became the conversation with the budget.

Even AM2+ is more upgradeable then Socket 775. Most socket AM2+ motherboards support AM3 CPU's such as the Phenom II and the Athlon II.
