speed test and download speed don't match?

I don't understand why the download is slower than dial up, and the really frustrating part is my internet is supposed to be 1.5Mbps. Can anyone explain or help?
(and I know the two pics are hard to understand)

Try rebooting your modem/router and try again. Use this site for your speedtest.

www.speedtest.net

If you continue to get slow speeds you need to contact your internet provider.

The major difference is that Speakeasy is measuring the speed in bits per second (.47Mbs) while the download is being measured in Bytes per second (45kBs). As you know there are 8 bits to a byte so you need to divide the bits per second number by 8 to compare with the bytes per second number.

BTW, dial up would be no faster than about 52kbs so if you were downloading it would show as around 6.5kBs so you are still quite a bit faster than dial up.

You should contact your ISP to ask why the speed test is showing only 1/3 the speed you are paying for, if you are paying for a 1.5M connection.

thanks for the help (no i didn't understand the bit vs. byte) and i did use speedtest.net first and got the same result it just looked jumpy and i wasn't sure how accurate it was
