I live in a residential home with a cable modem service through a local cable provider and I pay for 20 Mbps service.
I have tested my internet speed using several different free test sites similar to and including, Speedtest.net .
My results are all over the place and I would like to know if ANY of these are actually accurate or if something else is causing the variance.
Example:
Speedtest.net - 3 Different Tests - Avg. 5.17 Down / 1.54 Up
Speakeasy.net - 3 Different Tests - Avg. 13.09 Down / 1.46 Up
Bandwidthplace.com - 3 Different Tests - Avg. 6.93 Down / 1.56 Up
Any ideas why the results vary so much, and why none are even close to the target that I pay for?
Hardware shouldn't be a problem. The computer I use has a direct connection to the modem, and it's a fairly fast / healthy machine. Plenty of processor and RAM.
Ideas?
