Speed up computer

This is a pretty simple question; I have a program on my computer that runs really slow and i don't know why. I have over 50 gb of ram free at the moment, and i have checked for viruses/spyware/adware and come up with nothing. Even when I had no other programs running, it still runs poorly. Can anyone help me with a way to speed things up?
 
First of all no one has 50gb of ram free at anytime since the newest boards max at 8gb. A slight typo error? What type of program are you running? The msconfig utility included in Windows will show what things automatically load along with Windows at startup. Many simply run in the background.

The msconfig utility is opened by typing "msconfig" at the Run prompt. Once that screen comes up you go over to the last tab on the right side to open the startup group there. The services also shows what programs are running by first checking the "hide all Microsoft services" option there. You can temporarily disable non Windows items to see if there is a driver conflict with another program being seen.

Often with pc games especially antivirus utilities will interfere with softwares and have to be disabled temporarily to avoid clashes there. A bad installation of the program itself can cause problems too.
 
Another thing that can effect any program or software is the version of Windows or other operating system it was designed to run. That would cause a compatability issue. Have you considered a reinstallation of the program itself in case something was left out or not completely copied to the drive?
 
BTW, 50G isn't a whole lot now-of-days... Or else you have a really loaded down large HD, which would slow your machine down :P But without knowing the program, or your specs, it's hard to say why it won't work...

Tell me about it. When I had 185gb tied up on the 250gb primary things got a little "bogged down" forcing removals of.... :eek: ! quite a bit. That was roughtly seeing(38.5gb+15gb=)53.5gb left available. On an 80gb drive that wouldn't be a problem. Knowing the OS installed can also be a factor.
