First i would try some general cleanup utilities:

(these are all free by the way)

CCleaner
Malwarebytes (make sure you update it when you run it)
Auslogics Registry Cleaner
Auslogics Disk Defrag

You'll have to run all of them multiple times to see some good benefits, I'm guessing this computer has probably not had a cleaning before?

I would also suggest stopping startup programs from running:

Hit start, run and type msconfig and hit enter. Go to the services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and then uncheck all the remaining entries. Hit apply and restart.

This should increase the performance of the machine somewhat.
 
Don't use any registry cleaners. They do more harm than good.

I agree with ccleaner, malwarebytes and with defrag though. Another option for a defragmenter is. It is free, just click download now, those are donator buttons if you wish to donate, it is freeware. Don't use the windows defrag because it is rubbish

Also clear out all unused programs, files and folders you have.

go to start>control panel>add/remove programs and uninstall all unused programs. Be ruthless with it.
