Speed up Xp

get and run ccleaner and download defraggler from there to help speed up the computer.
 
Cheers guys, Registery stuff is a bit complicated for me so i might leave that for now.
Does anybody know any programs that can find and remove hard to delete files?
Ive tried Revo uninstaller but it only works for whole programs.
 
just run ccleaner's registry cleaner. it's completely safe. if you think it messed something up then just back up the registry. all registry cleaners give you that option

and when i say back up i mean just double click the file you backed up
 
How much system memory you got?

the slightest upgrade can give your system a nice boost,it did on my old rig going from 512 - 1gb.
 
Another thing to look at is the graphics. Are you running the default XP graphics that have shading and fading and other visual effects for the windows. You can change this by right-clicking My Computer, hit the Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance, and opting for the Adjust for Best Performance radio. It free's up a little bit of RAM that will give you some better performance.

I dont even know what boxes to check,
Thanks for all the tips guys. Downgrading the graphics seems to help alot.
