speedfan noticed that temps 2 and 3 were abnormally hot. they are both 52C. what are those temperatures?

EDIT i am now seeing them both jump to 60C (i am also playing a game though, age of empires III online.)

Temp3: Power/Aux Temperature

But In my experience speedfan can't always be trusted with it’s warnings. :)

yes, it was very hot. i have an amd 4800 heatsink modded to fit my socket 754 board, and i didnt use any thermal paste when i did it, because i was told to just leave it with the bare thermal pad

useless? i thought that with the heatsink being so good, it would work well?

EDIT: ok now i can say for sure that my temps are ok when idle, (just wmp and firefox open) but under loads i see temps over 60-65C

Almost all stock thermal pads are bad compared to AS5 and Zalman's new thermal compound. Just because it is a good heatsink doesn't mean that the thermal paste/pad is good.

the rest of all my temps are in the low 30's so they are very low, while i play a game (morrowind) my core and board temps go to the 60's.

wow it just got really cold lol temp 1 hit 20C (just a side note)

Your thermal pad is just probably not transfering heat as well anymore. Just get some Arctic Silver 5 and replace your thermal compound.

there is no thermal compund. lol... i scraped the old junk off and used the thermal pad alone (the little sticker-like-thing that it came with)

so is that the only thing i can do? even idle, my fans are running @3000rpm constant, and my idle temps still reach into the 50's

ok well, my problem seems to be getting worse, but i wont shut off my computer till i see 65C, thats my deadline. i will try to get some arctic silver, where is the best place? newegg? (also, the newegg factory is only a days drive from my house in america, so i always get my shipments in around 2 days.)

You do realize that Newegg has wharehouses all over the country...they have some in CA, in TN, NJ, and more......

Those aren't always true..it's different for every computer. My temp1 is the board/case temp, temp2 is cpu, and temp 3 is my northbridge temp.
