Speeding up files transfer from 1 HD to another

I wonder if there's any software that could significantly speed up files copying?

While making this thread, I'm backing up my files and it has taken forever.....

FYI, I'm using a E8400

I don't know, are you Transferring the whole hard drive?
other wise you have a lot of stuff >.< I Really don't know what to suggest rather than to watch a movie to pass the time

no software, but better hard drives would help. Along with a defrag before transferring the files.

There are many factors that cause drive-to-drive copying to be quite slow. The computer has to process the data, Windows has to process the data, various programs (might) have to process the data, the drives have to process the data...

I know Linux seems to copy data a bit faster. Vista and even 7 are notorious for very slow data copying speeds.

Hmmm. I wonder if booting to DOS/root and then transferring would be noticeably faster.

I use TeraCopy. I've noticed a significant increase in transfer speed, but the best part is that if a file is unreadable or there is any sort of trouble with the transfer of a file, rather than just shut down the entire copying process and make you start again from the beginning, TeraCopy just skips it and makes a note of it.
