Speedlink universal adapter stopped working yet it goes on

Hello,

All of a sudden, this Pecos Universal Adapter 90W stopped working after 1,5 years.
The laptop is all fine. The battery still makes it run.

When I plug the adapter into the wall, the red light on the box of the adapter goes on. When I plug it into the laptop, the laptop doesn't go on.(Red light still on) Also, when the laptop is on with the battery, the laptop doesn't recognize the cable and doesn't get its battery charged.

The red light stays on for up to a minute until the light dies out after I unplug it from the wall.

The cables aren't loose or bent. Both plugs are good and the box never fell. The voltage is at 18V, the right one for this laptop. I tried different outlets in the house. I also tried another laptop but the adapter doesn't have the right plug for it oddly enough. I tried to discharge the laptop by holding down the power button for 20 to 30 seconds when everthing is unplugged. Nothing worked. The box also smells like plastic was cooked...?

Tomorrow, I'll go to the store to get it replaced, luckily it's still within it's 2 years waranty, unless someone has the miracle solution to fix it.

Thanks!

I went to the computer store and they tested the whole adapter on voltage and amps. Those were all fine. But I did get a new adapter for a lower price which does work. (They now said it was a 1 year waranty, that the person back then misinformed me about it.)

It seems that wattage could be wrong then. It all works on itself but not in a laptop... That makes it look like a case of "deadline-microchip".

You don't really want to use universal chargers anyway. Always use a genuine manufacturer adapter that is the correct voltage and amperage that the laptop requires. Otherwise you're likely to fry your laptop.
