Squeaking noise from CPU

I had a Thermaltake Beetle CPU Fan installed on my computer and it failed on me so my computer was running at about 70 degrees celcius. I would turn off the computer when it reached that point. SO I went and bought another CPU fan and heatsink and now when I watch a movie or some kind of media on my computer there is a squeaking noise that comes from my CPU or my RAM... does anyone know about this? Is there damage to my CPU from the heat maybe?

Thanks in advance

Well first you will need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html And a reminder to take a few minutes to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html We do this with the new members often.

Upon installing the new heat sink//fan combination the most likely sound is not the cpu or memory but the fan on the new hsf. Once you start running multimedia you are placing a good load on system resources where the cpu fan is then seen running at a faster speed. If you have a fan controller along with it try setting that to a slower speed. What make and model is the new one?

Did you even put Thermal Compound on the CPU to make the heat goes to the heat-sink???????????????????????

of course I put thermal compound on... lol

Anyways its not like that kind of squeaking it like a screaching sound that stops when i turn off the movie and then when i turn it back on it comes back on. My computer is a lot slower since this happened also. I think it might be damage internally.

One thing you could try is taking the side cover and then start the system up and run a movie to pinpoint just where the sound is actually coming from. Is it the cpu fan, rear case fan, dvd drive? Once you know just where it's coming from you will have a better idea of the cause. A cpu fan binding and squealing would see cpu temps go up.

After I mess inside my small PC case, I get strange noises too.
It is probably some wire that's hitting the case or fan as the whole
thing vibrates.

Go inside and "clean up" the wiring. Repeat this until the noise is gone.

I have a question that kinda goes along with this. Every time I watch a movie or do something CPU intensive or if my hard disk is seeking my speakers make a staticy sound. I know it's some kind of interference I just don't know why it's doing it. Maybe It's cause I'm using one of those crappy on-board sound cards. I just don't know although I have tried a regular sound card and still have the same problem. I don't know if this helps any, but they are big speakers.

You can spend $400+ on speakers for a home entertainment center and still hear some static at times with a receiver or amp. The onboard or installed sound card simply passes along anything it picks up that it can't filter out. On occasion here I'll hear a small click sound when going to browse a folder or drive. When you put on system resources there's a lot more current being pulled the board itself to meet the demand. Ever hear a click when turning a light switch on or off?

Yeah I know what your talking about, but this just isn't normal it gets to the point where it drives me nutso and I can't do anything about it except for turning the sound down and when I do that I can't hear jack. I don't know for sure if my cpu causes it too, but I do know that my hard disk causes it and like I said it doesn't just happen with onboard it's just the worst using it. Unfortunaty my pci sound card is shot to hell so I guess I can't do anything about it. I'm pretty sure that this is a case of EMI.

By the way nice link in your sig I saw a little bit of that on Hackaday.com

The link there is for a look at a different or unusual way to make music. That was an upload from a music college. You don't see that all of the time. :P

One thing I could easily ask here is whther or not you run the onboard while the card is still in the case? If you are try removing the expansion to see if you still get the same level of static. Also make you clean off all of the drivers for the card so they are not still loading. You can also check to be sure the onboard is disabled in the bios when going to use the card there. See if either of these ideas make an improvement. Onboard anything has to be disabled when using an expansion whether audio or video to remove hardware/resource conflicts.
