so basically I formatted and installed my os on my ssd. It loads fine and my hdd, which is now going to be my data drive, shows up as well. the problem is I want my ssd to boot the os and then be able to access all my programs on my data drive. to do this I have to boot from my data drive. I want my os to boot and then switch to my data drive so I can run all my programs and have them on the desktop etc. How do I accomplish this?

If you want to be able to access programs that are installed on the other drive your only option is to reinstall them as registry entries are required for programs to run correctly. And the only way to get the registry entries is to reinstall the program.

You have a new install of windows, you'll need to reinstall the programs that you want to access, no if's, and's or but's about it.

I must be missing something here, I don't get it. You've installed your OS on your SSD, (C), and want to be able to access programs on your data drive, (D). Correct? Why would you have to boot with D: ? The majority of my programs are on D: and my OS is on my SSD, C: drive. I've also moved all of my libraries, Pictures, Videos, Documents, and Music to D: and all programs and libraries operate just like I was running a single drive. When installing a program just chose custom install and specify a path to your D: drive. The OS on C: will run the program regardless of where the program resides.

yeah i had a 500GB hdd and had all my programs just dragged and dropped on there installed windows 7 on my 200GB HDD and i was able to access programs under that 500GB until i had to bring that hard drive back :P
